I love to read both fiction and non-fiction, and I like to write essays, poetry, and spec scripts for Broad City. Recently, I’ve been especially interested in literary non-fiction, new journalism and the contemporary memoir.
I recently graduated from Northwestern University with a Master’s degree in Public Policy, and I’m hoping to write about my passion for social justice on this blog as well (if I can convince myself that I’ve got something interesting to say.
I’m still not quite sure what I want to do with this blog, except that I want to group together all of my diverse interests in one place. My dad always told me that it was better to be an expert in one thing than to spread yourself too thin by having too many interests. I have completely failed at heeding his advice. I’d like to think that my wide range of interests has more to do with insatiable curiosity as opposed to an attenuated attention span.
So, hopefully this blog will be something like kottke.org, or boingboing.net—a collection of what I find cool, interesting, or informative. Since I doubt I’ll have many readers anyway, it’s probably OK that this blog will feature a mishmash of public policy news, book, movie, and theater reviews in addition to DIY tutorials for whatever craft/tech obsession is occupying me at the moment.
I’m an aspiring film buff; some of my favorite directors are Pedro Almodóvar, Alfonso Cuarón, Stanley Kubrick, P.T. Anderson, Darren Aronofsky, and McG (c’mon, everybody knows that the first Charlie’s Angels’ was awesome).
